HYDERABAD: Barely 24 hours after it received an official letter from the Election Commission of India that it has been allotted the Sun symbol, the Praja Rajyam Party today received a jolt in the form of an objection from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) of Tamilnadu on the symbol. The DMK reportedly decided to file an objection before the ECI on Monday, on the allotment of the Sun symbol to PRP. However, the contention of the DMK is not known. But the PRP leaders stated that the objection would not be sustained. Speaking to ENS, PRP Political Affairs Committee member C Ramachandraiah said that they have urged the ECI to allot raising Sun as symbol, but it was allotted Sun with rays.

The symbol of DMK is Sun between two hills and their party symbol was Sun with rays around and both are different did not resemble. As the two parties were State parties, the DMK should not have any objection, the PRP leader pointed out. As a matter of policy, a State party cannot contest in other State with its symbol, he stated and wondered why the DMK should have any objection to this.
