TIRUPATI: Women and Child Welfare Minister Konda Surekha has urged the officials to create an awareness among women about the schemes being implemented by the department for their welfare and empowerment.
She reviewed the performance of the Women and Child Welfare Department district-wise with ICDS project directors of Kadapa, Anantapur, Chittoor and Kurnool districts at a regional meeting here today.
She said the district officials as well as supervisory staff should evolve village level plans for the effective implementation of women and child welfare schemes.
The project directors were asked to ensure prompt clearance of applications received from women under Balika Sisu Samrakshana Pathakam.
An awareness should be promoted among women about the Domestic Violence (Prevention) Act to better safeguard their interests. Focus should also be laid on promotion of girl child education and health, she said.
When the project directors took lack of permanent buildings and adequate infrastructure for Anganwadi centres to her notice, the minister promised to take measures to solve the problems of ICDS staff.
There are 68 ICDS projects, 12,773 Anganwadi centres and 7 Anganwadi workers training centres in the four districts. Regional Joint Director MKR Vijayakumari was also present.
