HYDERABAD: As expected, another idealogue of the Praja Rajyam Party, Dr P Mithra, has quit. However, he has chosen not to level any charges against the party leadership and merely said he is leaving because he feels there is no role for him any longer.
Mitra handed over the resignation letter to party president Chiranjeevi here today but party sources did not confirm whether it was accepted. Speaking to newsmen, Mitra also did not agree with the view that Chiranjeevi’s brother-in-law and general secretary of the party Allu Aravind was responsible for the poll debacle. “The blame has to be taken collectively. We cannot single out one individual,” Mitra averred. “The party is going in a certain direction and my feeling is that there is no role for me in it. I am not going to join any other party. But I will do my wee bit to any social movement,”
he stated. Mitra and Parakala Prabhakar were the official spokespersons of the
party. Prabhakar left PRP before the polls itself accusing the leadership of running it like a company. Though there was speculation that Mitra too would quit at that point of time, he has chosen to continue till now. Despite persistent queries from newsmen, Mitra chose not to specify the reasons for his exit except saying that he conveyed whatever he wanted to in his letter to Chiranjeevi. Meanwhile, there is speculation that another PRP leader, Vinay, too intends to quit. Vinay, son of former Union minister P Shiv Shankar, unsuccessfully contested from the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency in the recent elections.
