HYDERABAD: With differences over seat-sharing refusing to die down, the four Grand Alliance partners –– TDP, TRS, CPI and CPM –– are mulling ‘friendly contest’ in several Assembly segments on which consensus has proved elusive.
It might be TRS versus TDP in over 10 Assembly constituencies and TRS versus CPI and CPM in two. It could be TDP versus the Left in some others. And finally, it definitely, may be CPI versus CPM in over four Assembly segments.
As of now, the alliance leaders are wracking their brains on how to resolve the ‘complex’ problem of seat-sharing. The talks between TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu continued late into the night. It is learnt that the TRS has agreed to concede Mahaboobnagar and Acchampet seats to the TDP, for both of which it had unilaterally announced candidates.
The TDP and CPM both are upset with the TRS for announcing candidates for some Assembly segments unilaterally.
CPI comrades, on the other hand, are displeased with TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu for reducing the number of Assembly seats promised earlier to them. “Initially, the TDP promised to give us 16 Assembly seats, but now it is reducing the number,” a CPI leader alleged.
Interestingly, the CPM and the CPI too are locking horns over four Assembly segments. Both the Left parties are pitching for - Nellore Rural, Wyra, Mangalagiri and Gajuwaka.
At the negotiation table, the TDP has agreed to allot 4 5 Assembly seats to the TRS and continue further talks over four seats.
But, the TRS announced its candidates for Wanaparthy, Warangal East, Mahaboobnagar, Achhampet and Narsampet, which were not allotted to it.
Though the TRS did no t name candidates for seats like Maheswaram, Uppal, Kukatpally, Quthbullapur and other seats in Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad districts, the TDP cadre are protesting, as a precautionary measure.
