HYDERABAD: YS Rajasekhara Reddy has been a pro-active leader in taking up people welfare schemes. Ever since Rajasekhara Reddy took over as Chief Minister, the State was being given a face-lift with a proactive trend in its pro-active, pro-poor and pro-farmer as well as investor-friendly and rural-oriented polices.

RAJIV AROGYASRI

Putting an end to the agony of poor people, the scheme enabled the poor to get free treatment for life threatening diseases at corporate hospitals. This includes heart operations to children. About two lakh surgeries were performed since its launch. The scheme covers 942 diseases for treatment and operations.

104 RURAL MOBILE HEALTH UNITS and 108 EMRI AMBULANCE SERVICES

Both the health services were first of their kind in the country.

The fixed day health services were provided through 104 mobile units to every remote village. About 475 mobile health units provided free health checkups, medicines for entire month, quality healthcare at the doorsteps of four crore rural people.

PAVALA VADDI

Probably for the first time in the world, loans were provided to women, farmers and weavers at an annual interest rate of three percent only. The scheme became a boon for women of Self-Help Groups as well as farmers and weavers who were facing severe financial crisis due to debts.

SUBSIDY RICE

The Rs 2-per-kg rice scheme was first initiated by former chief minister NT Rama Rao, but was shelved by successive governments for a long period. Rajasekhara Reddy restarted the scheme benefiting nearly 1.85 crore white ration card holders. In addition to rice, the Government is providing red gram and palm oil at subsidised rates.

ABHAYAHASTHAM

(IKP Life Insurance Scheme) The scheme is aimed at providing monthly pension ranging from Rs.500 to Rs.2,200 to women aged above 60 years. Under the scheme, children of Self Help Group (SHG) women will be provided scholarships for education.

RAJIV UDYOGASRI

With an aim to create 25 lakh jobs for unemployed youth, the Government provided livelihood for about 10 lakh persons in the past five years. Apart from government jobs, youth were trained to get employment in industries in private sector.

NREGP

Though the programme is a Central Government initiative, Rajasekhara Reddy ensured that the scheme benefitted large number of farmers and farm labourers who were suffering due to drought. The scheme has put a stop to migrations.

INDIRAMMA HOUSES

Providing shelter for about 39 lakh poor during the past four and half years, the scheme was aimed at constructing 80 lakh houses for poor. Further, house sites were distributed to more than 20 lakh poor.`

FEE REIMBURSEMENT

Erasing the economical disparity between poor and rich in higher education system, the scheme was launched to provide 100 per cent fee reimbursement to students belonging to BC, SC, ST, minority and also Economically Backward Class communities. About 33 lakh students benefitted from the scheme.
