HYDERABAD: The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology and Biorad Laboratories (India) signed a Memorandum of Understanding today for collaboration in the field of proteomics.

The MoU was signed by Lalji Singh, CCMB Director and John Hertia, Group Operations Manager of Biorad.

Proteomics is a field of life sciences which extracts proteins from cells in blood. The tie up will have two components.

The first is an R&D component where CCMB will acquire technology and equipment from Biorad and CCMB scientists will visit the Biorad Labs in the USA for training and collaborative programmes. The expenses will be borne by Biorad. The second component is educational.

CCMB wants to promote the science among students and scientists alike.

CCMB scientist, Ravi Sirdeshmukh said that proteins could be used for diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

Proteomics is directly involved in drug development because disease processes and treatments are present at the protein level.
