HYDERABAD: A stockbroker was arrested today by the Cyberabad police for driving a woman employee of the Stock Holding Corporation of India (SHCI) to suicide by stalking her, police said.
Yesterday, A Ananda Lakshmi (28) went to her office in Secunderabad but returned home within an hour, and hanged herself from the ceiling of her house at Medchal. When her husband Veera Venkata Babu, who works at a chicken shop, came home for lunch, he was shocked to find his wife dead.
Police said the couple had two sets of keys and Ananda Lakshmi entered the house with her set. In her suicide note she blamed one of the company’s customers, Janardhan Rao, for her death, saying he had been harassing her for about two and a half years.
``She informed her husband three months ago about Rao’s harassment, and also complained to her manager.
In the past four days Rao had followed her in the bus wherever she travelled.
Unable to face the harassment she committed suicide,’’ Medchal sub-inspector of police C Yadender told Express.
Ananda Lakshmi did not explain how she had been harassed by the accused. Police investigations revealed that Janardhan Rao tried to sexually exploit the woman.
Janardhan Rao is a resident of Errum Manzil and frequently visits the Stock Holding Corporation of India for business. Police said the accused denied having harassed her. Medchal police registered a case against Janardhan under Sec 306 (abetment to commit suicide) of IPC and was sent to remand.
