HYDERABAD: Justice BN Srikrishna Committee on Friday said it was taking note of every development at the ground level including the recent bypolls in the Telangana region and the unabated students' suicides.
"The committee is not oblivious to what is happening at the ground level. We are taking note of everything happening on ground," Chairman Justice Srikrishna and member VN Duggal told reporters here.
Asked about the students' suicides, Justice Srikrishna repeated the same but added: "What inference we will draw from them will be known to you after December 31."
Duggal said 99 per cent of their work, that of consulting different sections of the society, was completed. The committee will embark upon a two-week long tour of Rayalaseema in the last week of this month.
"Justice SriKrishna has even decided to travel in train from Shadnagar to Kadapa for district visits," Duggal said. "I am not averse to undertake even a padayatra to know the public pulse. But my padayatra will not be political in nature," chipped in the panel chairman in a lighter vein.
Duggal said they had so far received 1.15 lakh representations in addition to those submitted during their field visits. "The consultations gave several dimensions and the committee members are happy with the participation of the people," he said.
Asked whether the committee would summon PCC chief D Srinivas in the wake of the byelection results, Justice Srikrishna said the committee had no such powers to summon anyone. "Whoever is interested, whether a PCC chief or a common man, in meeting the committee and express their view, they are welcome,'' he added.
The committee's field visits would be completed by the second week of September. They will have three months to prepare their report and submit to the Centre.
The report will be in the best interests of all the people of the state, said Justice Srikrishna.
