HYDERABAD: Committee for Release of Political Prisoners, Andhra Pradesh (CRPP) has demanded the State Government to release all the `political prisoners’ who were illegally detained. CRPP also demanded immediate lifting of cases against Telangana agitators.
Speaking to reporters here today, CRPP president KG Kannabiran demanded immediate release of political prisoners and alleged that the State Government was not humane towards the political prisoners.
He said the Government should assess the bevaiour of the prisoner during the imprisonment.
If the prisoner’s conduct was good in the jail, he should be released not taking the offence committed by him into consideration, if he completes 20 years in prison, Kannabiran said.
He said the human rights activists should also bring pressure on the Government for the release of prisoners.
CRPP honourary advisor Varavara Rao demanded that all the illegal cases against CRPP should be dropped unconditionally.
He also demanded immediate release of Tusharkanth Bhattacharya who was detained by the police.
He alleged that the police themselves were writing the confessional statements and implicating leaders and activists in false cases.
He demanded dropping of cases against lawyers, students, professors, employees and artists.
CRPP general secretary Balla Ravindra Nath, vicepresidents BSA Satyanarayana and A Narasimha Reddy and State committee member Chikkudu Prabhakar were present at the press meet.
