

HYDERABAD: The provisional population totals for Andhra Pradesh has been announced by Director of Census Operations, Andhra Pradesh.
The state has recorded a total population of 8,46,65,533 comprising 4,25,09,881 males and 4,21,55,652 females, showing an increase of 84,55,526 persons over the 2001 census with a decadal growth rate of 11.10 percent as against 14.59 recorded in the 2001 census, which means the decadal growth has come down by 3.49 percent during the decade 2001-11.
Addressing a press conference here today director of census operations (AP) YV Anuradha said that among the 23 districts, Rangareddy district has recorded highest decadal growth rate 48.15, followed by Mahaboobnagar district with 15.03 and Kurnool with 14.65. The lowest decadal growth rate recorded in West Godavari district with 3.45 preceded by Vizianagaram district with 4.6 and Hyderabad with 4.71.
Of the 86,42,686 population in the age group of 0-6, boys account for 44,48,330 and girls 41,94,356. Of the total number of 5,14,38,510 literaes, 2,87,59,782 are men and 2,26,78,728 are women.
Anuradha said the state had recorded a density of 308 persons per sq.km as against 277 in the 2001 census. Hyderabad district has registered the highest density with 18,480 persons per sq.km, followed by Rangareddy and Krishna district with 707 an 519 respectively. The lowest density is recorded in Adilabad district with 170 persons per sq.km preceded by Khammam and Kadapa districts with 175 and 188 respectively.
The state has recorded a total literacy of 67.77 percent as against the 60.47 percent recorded in the 2001 census. It shows an increase of 7.19 percentage. Male literacy rate is 75.56 as against 70.32 recorded in 2001. The female literacy rate is 59.74 percent as against 50.43 percent recorded in the 2001 census.
Among the districts, the highest literacy rate is recorded in Hyderabad with 80.96 percent, followed by Rangareddy with 78.05 and Krishna with 74.37 percent. The lowest literacy rate is recorded in Mahaboobnanagr with 56.06 percent, preceded by Vizianagaram district with 59.49 and Kurnool with 61.13, she said.
When it comes to sex ratio, the state has recorded the male to female sex ratio as 992:978, showing an increase of 14 points during the decade 2001-2011. Nizamabad district has recorded the highest sex ratio with 1,038 followed Vizianagaram and Srikakulam district with 1,016 and 1.014 respectively. The lowest sex ratio was recorded in Hyderabad district with 943 preceded by Rangareddy and Mahaboobnagar district with 955 and 975 respectively.
Anuradha said it was only provisional totals and the final list would be announced next year. The Census of India-2011 is the 15th in its unbroken series since 1872, the seventh after Independence and the sixth after the formation of Andhra Pradesh.
Nearly 1.50 lakh enumerators and 25,000 supervisors and other senior officials were involved in the the gigantic task. To count one head the department incurred `18, she added.
