HYDERABAD: Almost raising a banner of revolt against Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu, Rajya Sabha member and party founder NT Rama Rao's son Nandamuri Harikrishna has declared that he will go to people soon and launch a movement against corruption.

When Naidu and scores of party leaders were undertaking a padayatra  in the city today in a campaign against corruption, a three-page statement signed by Harikrishna was distributed by his followers during the padayatra extolling NTR's fight against corruption.

Interestingly, Harikrishna skipped Naidu's padayatra. Nor did he mention Naidu's name anywhere in his letter. Harikrishna's resolve to go to people on his own perplexed the party leaders.

At the beginning of his statement, Harikrishna extended support to Anna Hazare's fight against corruption and demanded that Jan Lokpal bill be introduced in Parliament.

“I am recalling NTR's fight against corruption, as I am the protector of the ideals of NTR."

When he was chief minister NTR appointed a retired IAS officer from Telangana as Dharma Mahamatra and  constituted the Lok Ayukta, Harikrishna said.

“Why have the successive governments failed to introduce the Lok Pal bill in Parliament in the last 64 years?” he questioned and wondered why the real culprits of various scams right from Bofors to the 2-G spectrum scam had not not brought to justice.

Pointing to corruption in Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and Anganwadi, Harikrishna said corruption was spreading like cancer in the society.

He suggested independent Lok Pal and Lok Ayukta to deal with corruption. He suggested revival of the Total Revolution started by the late Jayaprakah Narayana in the 1970s.

“Taking inspiration from NTR, who relentlessly fought against corruption, I will launch a mass movement,'' he concluded.

Vangapandu to head TD’s cultural panel

Popular singer and Jana Natya Mandali founder Vangapandu Prasada Rao today joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). He will be the incharge for the training programmes committee of the party's cultural wing. Prasada Rao said he would sing songs at all the public meetings addressed by TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and see that the TDP was voted to power. Prasadarao hails from Parvatipuram in Srikakulam district.
