TIRUMALA: A youngster on Friday managed to sneak in a digital camera into the Tirumala shrine, exposing lapses in the security arrangements at the temple.
Anurag Rajendra Matrey from Raigad district, Maharashtra, arrived at the temple on Friday evening along with his family members.
Despite metal detectors and frisking at checkpoints, he managed to walked in with the camera in his pocket.
Sources said he had taken about a dozen snaps of the sanctum sanctorum, Vendi Vakili, Bangaru Vakili, Srivari Hundi and the temples surrounding the main temple at leisure.
A TTD employee noticed him when he was clicking at the Yogi Narasimha Swamy temple and alerted the security personnel.
The security guards pounced upon him when he was at the Padi Kavali having the prasadam and seized his camera.
When inquired by vigilance, Anurag gave his details and said he had taken the photos to show them to his friends.
At first, the vigilance officials denied the incident but later admitted it and maintained that nothing in the sanctum sanctorum was captured on camera.
They said they had confiscated the camera and the memory chip inside it. An inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
