WARANGAL: The district administration is helpless with regard to recovering the bodies of three workers who died in Devadula tunnel mishap at Vasantapur village.

The trio died while they were at work in the tunnel on July 15 night. The tunnel got flooded with water due to a hole in the Chalivagu reservoir present above it. Though other workers came out safely, Banchu Lal, Praj Bal and Gayauddin could not.

The district officials are of the opinion that they cannot fish out the bodies from the tunnel as it is completely filled with water. The efforts of a navy rescue team from Visakhapatnam also bore no fruit. The team members expressed their inability to trace the bodies as the water in the tunnel was muddy. Soon district collector Rahul Bojja wrote a letter to the central government seeking help from the disaster management wing but there was no reply to it so far. Meanwhile, engineerng officials said that it was not possible to remove water from the 4.5-km long tunnel. However, efforts are on to plug the hole in the Chalivagu reservoir which led to the flooding of the tunnel.  The tunnel runs 20-feet below the reservoir underground. Officials feel that there would be wastage of water if the hole in the reservoir is not plugged.
