NALGONDA: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao has rubbished the reports suggesting possible merger of his party with the Congress.

“The Congress is obsessed with merger. One day, people will merge it in the Bay of Bengal if it does not deliver a Telangana state,” Chandrasekhar Rao remarked.

Speaking to reporters at Gundrampalli in Choutuppal mandal in Nalgonda district, after paying respects to TRS politburo member Cheruku Sudhakar’s father Usha Goud who passed away 11 days ago, Rao blamed the delay in formation of a T state on lack of political will among leaders. “People have made it clear that they want Telangana but the leaders have not matched that passion,” Rao said.

The heartening aspect of the movement, however, was that people remained united for the cause of a separate state. “This alone is Srirama Raksha for the movement,” he said. The T movement had never been so forceful and strong. There was no alternative for the Congress but to honour the wish of the people of the region, Chandrasekhar Rao said.

Referring to the destruction of the statues on the Tank Bund, Rao took exception to the subtle campaign that felling of the statues was an attack on the state’s culture and heritage. The pent up feelings among the youth for a Telangana state took expression in this form, he said.
