HYDERABAD: Ever since Majlis Bachao Tahreek (MBT) party was founded by late Amanullah Khan in 1993, the party has been at loggerheads with the Majlis- E-Ittehadul-Muslimeen (MIM).

Amanullah Khan was a confidante of MIM patriarch Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi till 1993. However, after differences cropped up between them, Amanullah Khan revolted against the party and floated his own outfit.

Amanullah Khan's grouse was that Salauddin Owaisi, as the president of the Babri Masjid Action Committee, 'conspired' with the Sangh parivar, leading to the demolition of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992. He also alleged that there was no internal democracy in the MIM.

Since then, all the factions who were cold towards MIM and Owaisi family in particular, joined the ranks of MBT to politically destabilise the MIM. Amanullah Khan who represented Chandrayangutta for 20 years lost the seat in 1999 against MIM candidate Akbaruddin Owaisi.

However, he continued his fight against the MIM till he died in 2002. But his sons Amjadullah Khan and Khayam Khan continued.
