A public interest petition was filed in the High Court here on Friday seeking cancellation of the Nandi awards given for Telugu feature film, “Jai Bolo Telangana”, and to its director N Shankar for year 2011.

Jai Bolo Telangana got the best feature film award on national integration and its director received the best director’s award.

The government announced the awards in October this year. Petitioner Adusumilli Jayaprakash, a former MLA from Vijayawada East, submitted to the court that the film, Jai Bolo Telangana, was based on the ongoing agitation for a separate Telangana state and it was produced primarily to whip up passions among the people of the region by projecting the other two regions of the state as the root-cause of all their miseries and to use the sentiment to fetch electoral dividends for a sub-regional political party.

The petitioner also wanted the court to direct the state government to frame guidelines for Nandi awards in a foolproof manner
