VIJAYAWADA: Director-general of police V Dinesh Reddy on Friday said they achieved a breakthrough in probe into desecration of BR Ambedkar statues in East Godavari district.  The DGP who said the police collected solid evidence against the vandals who desecrated the statues, refused divulge more information pertaining to the probe and involvement of politicians. 

Addressing a press conference at the office of police commissioner here, the DGP said two platoons of police were sent to Yanam responding to the request of Puducherry government to quell the riots there.

Dinesh Reddy said the police were determined to preempt the strikes of Maoists, who are desperate to make their presence felt by indulging in violence on state borders.

The DGP said each Assembly segment would get a sub divisional police office (SDPO) in two or three months after the reorganisation of SDPOs in the state. Women police stations would be strengthened to curb atrocities against women. Cyber crime stations coming up in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Chittoor would work under  the Crime Investigation Department (CID).

Highway patrol in Eluru, Kovvur and Bhimadole would be intensified, he said.

The DGP came to Vijayawada to hold a review meeting with SPs of Krishna and West Godavari districts and the city police commissioner.
