Probably taking a cue from TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, who had introduced the  concept of encouraging “political neutrals” to join his party when he was in power, the PCC leadership now decided to woo the political neutrals across the state to the Congress fold.

In a bid to gear up the Congress leaders and workers across the state for the 2014 polls, the PCC leadership is all set to launch party membership drive on October 18 at Gandhi Bhavan here on a grand note.

Talking to reporters at Gandhi Bhavan here on Monday, Pradesh Congress Committee president Botcha Satyanarayana said during the membership drive the Congress leaders would focus on attracting the “political neutrals” across the state to the Congress way.

According to the PCC chief, the renewal period for Congress membership has been increased to five years from the existing three years. The party had also scrapped active memberships and would hereafter issue only ordinary membership to party leaders and workers. The membership  fee would be ` 5, he added.
