With officials failing to keep up their promise on seven-hour uninterrupted power supply to the farming community, ryots of Parpelly in Lakshmanchanda mandal locked up the power other staff who came to the village to collect bills on Monday. However, they were released after police intervention.
Meanwhile, villagers of Kankapur staged a rasta roko demanding the state government to provide three-phase power supply to the agriculture fields.
Two farmers -- Alluri Ramulu and Satish -- complained that the input subsidy released by the government was not sufficient as they were incurring heavy loss for the last two years. “Our crops are drying up due to frequent power outages,” they said, adding that they were unable to clear debts taken from private money lenders. “We have no other choice than to end lives.”
Sensing more trouble, police reached the place and streamlined the traffic by removing the protestors.
On Sunday, farmers of Kalva and Bansali villages in Dilvarpur mandal staged a rasta roko on the Nagpur-Hyderabad national highway on Monday demanding uninterrupted power supply for seven hours to their fields.
The protest led to a traffic snarl. Nirmal RDO Gajanna reached the place and assured farmers of ensuring uninterrupted power supply.
