Jnanpith awardee and noted writer Ravuri Bharadwaj has said that he is delighted to receive the honorary doctorate from the Vignan University in Guntur district where he lived in utter poverty as a young boy.
He spoke to a huge gathering at the Vignan University at Vadlamudi in Guntur district on Saturday while receiving the honorary doctorate from the university on the occasion of its first convocation.
He said it was a delightful moment in his life getting the honorary doctorate from a reputed university for his contribution to Telugu literature. He said he wrote 180 books in his long career as a writer and some books were translated into other languages.
He requested chairman of the Vignan University Lavu Rattaiah to help the elderly people become literate if they had lost the opportunity to get educated in their childhood. High Court judge N V Ramana expressed concern that everything had become commercial due to the economic policies.
He felt the students should have concern for neighbours,, awareness about society as well as the problems and needs of the country and suggested that the students not forget the motherland and mother tongue. Gold medals were presented to nine meritorious students.
