Political rivalry is suspected to be the reason for the attack on YSRC leader Poreddy Prabhakar Reddy at his farm house in Himakuntla of Kadapa district on Sunday night. A day after the attack, police have reportedly took one person, who allegedly took part in the attack, into custody while a hunt is on to nab another person.
Police suspect that four persons might have attacked Prabhakar Reddy and his associates. The assailants numbering four came on two motorcycles and opened indiscriminate fire on Reddy from outside the farm house. Suspecting that Prabhakar Reddy and his associates were killed in the gun fire, two of the attackers entered the farm house when Prabhakar Reddy and his supporters launched a counter attack killing the duo.
Police on Monday identified the duo as B N Chandramohan Reddy (30) of Bidenemcherla village in Simhadripuram mandal and Gangireddy Janardhan Reddy (34) of Velidandla in Lingala mandal.
The two others who took part in the attack are said to be BN Sarveswara Reddy of Bidnemcherla and Ramamji of Vellanuru village in Anantapur district. Sources said Sarveswara Reddy is in police custody.
Police recovered a motorcycle, licenced weapon, another unlicenced weapon and couple of hunting sickles from the place.
Meanwhile, YSRC leaders YS Manohar Reddy, Y S Avinash Reddy and others visited the government hospital at Pulivendula and spoke with the injured Prabhakar Reddy and his followers.
Police suspect political rivalry behind the attack.
According to sources, Prabhakar Reddy along with another person from Bidnemcherla village, Bidnemcherla Brahmananda Reddy used to work for the TDP earlier. Both of them later joined the Congress party when YS Rajasekhara Reddy was the chief minister in 2004.
Prabhakar Reddy took active part in politics and initiated several works in the village and also become close to Rajasekhara Reddy’s family.
This, according to police, did not go well with his rivals including Brahmananda Reddy. Police suspect that the associates of Brahmananda Reddy might be behind the attack.
Prabhakar Reddy, however, in his complaint did not mention Brahmananda Reddy. Police are investigating whether Prabhakar Reddy had any disputes with other persons which might have led to the attack.
