Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy maintained stoic silence when around 10 ministers from the Telangana region called on him on Tuesday and discussed TJAC’s proposed Chalo Assembly programme on June 14.
The chief minister did not utter any word positively on allowing the programme. “The chief minister heard whatever we have said. He did not say anything,” a minister from Telangana said.
Ministers DK Aruna, Sunita Laxmareddy, B Saraiah, D Sridhar Babu and others met the chief minister at his chambers in the Assembly and wanted him to give permission for the Chalo Assembly. But the chief minister did not react. A minister said Kiran Reddy left the decision to the police.
Some ministers proposed that the TJAC organise a meeting in the city. If they turn the Chalo Assembly into a public meeting, the government may allow them, a minister added.
It may be recalled that Hyderabad police commissioner Anurag Sharma had already made it clear that they would not give permission to anyone to march towards the Assembly.
Meanwhile, demanding permission for the Chalo Assembly march, TRS, BJP and CPI members on Tuesday warned the state government that the situation might go out of hand if permission is denied.
TRS members Harish Rao, BJP legislative party leader E Lakshminarayana and CPI member K Sambasiva Rao said they have urged chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to grant permission for the march, but instead of responding positively, he is trying to escape saying he would talk to the police commissioner. “The chief minister’s behaviour is childish. He is the head of the state and he has to take the call on whether to grant permission or not. Instead, he is trying to escape from the issue by giving lame excuses,” they alleged.
Harish Rao said: “We have made our point clear. If the government grants permission to Chalo Assembly, the event will pass off peacefully and if the government tries to stop the march, then it will turn into another Millennium March.
The Seemandhra leadership is trying to foil the march by arresting pro-Telangana leaders. He urged the government to stop binding over Telangana leaders and workers.
“The TDP government used to allow Chalo Assembly rallies till Basheerbagh. Then, why is this government not allowing it,” BJP member Lakshminarayana asked.
CPI member K Sambasiva Rao said in democracy people have the right to express their views and not allowing it is against the spirit of democracy and the constitution. He demanded that the government grant permission to the Chalo Assembly march.
