The state legislative Assembly was adjourned for the third consecutive day on Thursday without transacting any business as the TRS and the BJP working in tandem in disrupting the proceedings of the House on the Telangana issue.

The two parties, which are fighting for the cause of separate Telangana state, demanded that the House adopt a resolution seeking creation of Telangana state while the TDP and the YSRCP asked speaker Nadendla Manohar to allow a discussion on the spiraling prices of essential commodities.

The TRS, BJP and CPI demanded that the government give permission for Friday’s ‘Chalo Assembly’ march and stop illegal arrests of people in Telangana. TRS and BJP members, holding placards, staged protests and shouted vociferous slogans over the preventive detention of a large number of people across Telangana.

As soon as the House met and the speaker rejected the notices for adjournment motions given by parties on various issues, members of the TRS and other parties rushed to the speaker’s podium holding placards and shouted “Jai Telangana” even as the speaker repeatedly appealed to them to let the House transact regular business listed for the day. To protest the against arrests of Telangana activists, BJP legislators went to the Assembly with their hands chained.

As TRS and other members failed to heed his appeal for order, the speaker adjourned the House for 30 minutes and held a meeting with the floor leaders of all parties.

Even after the House reassembled there was no order as the TRS and BJP members persisted with their demand. Deputy speaker M Bhatti Vikramarka, who was in the chair, adjourned the House again for 30 minutes. When the House met again, the TRS and BJP members continued their sloganeering. Amidst the slogan-shouting finance minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy introduced the AP Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments (Amendment) Bill, 2013, on behalf of chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. The speaker then adjourned the House for the day without transacting any business. Ever since the second spell of the budget session began, the situation has remained the same.
