Bitti case: Former Babu to be quizzed

Documents, laptop seized from Bitti’s flat at Puttaparthi

Intensifying its probe into Bitti Mohanty’s stay at Puttaparthi, the Kerala police are likely to question a retired IAS officer suspecting him to be the person who gave shelter to Mohanty,  son of a former DGP of Odisha, who jumped parole after being convicted in a rape case.

Sources associated with the probe said they would be questioning retired IAS officer KR Paramahamsa, who used to move very closely with Sai Baba. Police suspect some high-profile person would be behind Bitti Mohanty getting a voter ID card and bank accounts easily and they are verifying who that person is.

Police investigation revealed that Paramahamsa looks after the affairs of the Deeena Janoddhanra Trust (the home for destitute children) being run by Satya Sai Trust. It is learnt that Paramahamsa had introduced Bitti Mohanty to Rama Rao, the headmaster of the Deena Janoddharan Trust. Sources said Paramahamsa had appointed Rama Rao as the headmaster.

Kerala police, who landed in the district on Tuesday, are contemplating questioning Paramahamsa. Before questioning him, police are enquiring about the relations between Paramahamsa and BB Mohanty, father of Bitti. Police found that Rama Rao was the one who used to provide everything to Bitti during his stay in Puttaparthi. Rama Rao secured a job for Bitti at Sri Vidya College in Kothacheruvu mandal in the initial days and a flat adjacent to his in Sai Enclave on Chitravathi Road in Puttpartthi town. He later appointed him as a teacher in the home for destitute children. ``We suspect that all this was done by Rama Rao on the instructions of the former IAS officer,’’ a source said.

Meanwhile, the Kannur police, in the presence of their Puttaparthi counterparts, broke open the doors of Bitti’s flat and seized the seals of various educational institutions including the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology University, Bhubaneswar, where he studied engineering. Apart from seizing several documents and certificates from the flat, the police seized a laptop and personal computer. Sources said the police had got enough evidence to prove that Bitti was involved in forgery and impersonation to project himself as Raghav Rajan.

Cops visited local revenue office to know how Bitti had got voter ID card and nativity certificate. Sources further said they had also seized the voter ID card of Bitti’s father and former Odisha DGP BB Mohanty, but they did not confirm whether the ID card was issued in the name of BB Mohanty or Raghav Rajiv as whom he used to visit to Puttaparthi to see his son regularly.

Police submitted all the seized documents to the Penugonda munsif magistrate on Wednesday.
