Faction violence erupted once again erupted in Sirivella mandal on Monday, claming two lives.
E Parameswara Reddy (64) and his rival Dastagiri Reddy (50) were brutally done to death and anther man was critically injured.
Parameswara Reddy was returning to his office after completing his duty at Allagadda when he was attacked.
According to sources, a group of 12 attackers, lay in wait for Parameswara Reddy on the outskirts of Nandyal and, on seeing him come in a car, used a jeep to ram the car. Reddy fell from the car and tried to escape but the attackers chased and attacked him with hunting sickles, killing him on the spot.
One of the assailants, Dastagiri Reddy, also died on the spot when he fell down and run over by their Jeep while it was going at great speed to ram the car. The assailants fled the place without bothering to carry the body of their accomplice along with them.
Golla Krishna, a local factory worker who tried to stop the fight, was critically injured by the attackers. He was shifted to the government general hospital at Kurnool.
The attackers were alleged followers of YSR Congress Party leader Bhuma Nagireddy and the victim was a classmate of Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu and follower of former minister NMD Farooq.
Reddy, a native of Gannavaram village in Sirivella mandal, also served as president of Nandyal panchayat samiti and is currently practising as an advocate in Nandyal town.
He had had property disputes with his relatives for the last 10 years and the disputes snowballed into faction feuds and violence.
Nandyal police shifted the bodies to the government hospital in Nandyal for autopsy. Police have been deployed in the village to prevent further violence, Nandyal circle inspector Usen Peera said.
