Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy went into a huddle with his cabinet colleagues on Wednesday to chalk out a strategy to repulse the tirade of Opposition parties over the power issue.
Kiran Reddy asked his colleagues to launch a counter offensive against the campaign and agitation of the Opposition by extensively publicising government’s efforts to ease the crisis. He also asked them to explain the reasons for the acute power crisis in the state by holding meetings in each district.
The chief minister held a meeting with his cabinet colleagues at his camp office here on Wednesday. It was attended by 15 ministers.
Local body polls: According to sources, Kiran Kumar Reddy asked his cabinet colleagues to get ready for elections to local bodies which are likely to be held in June. Though he had earlier thought of holding the polls in the last week of April, he decided to hold them in June on the advice of his colleagues.
“As facing the polls in April or May would be an uphill task for the government amid power crisis and shortage of drinking water, the chief minister is now planning to hold the elections only after the onset of monsoon,” said a minister later.
Asking his colleagues to ensure that the landslide victory, the party tasted in the just-held cooperative polls, be repeated even in the elections to local bodies, Kiran told them to release all the pending funds to the ruling party MLAs to enable them to take up developmental works in their constituencies.
According to sources, chief minister expressed displeasure over the failure of the government and the party in extensively publicising the historic SC and ST Sub-Plans Act among people. It was decided to campaign extensively in Dalitawadas.
