In a major relief to cottage and small scale industries, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday ordered lifting of curbs on power consumption by small and cottage industries from May 15. The chief minister reviewed the power situation at a high-level meeting at the Secretariat.
The chief minister asked the officials to see that the power cuts for domestic sector particularly in rural areas were reduced. He also asked the officials to ensure that 240 to 250 million units power on an average was produced per day. Kiran Reddy said he would write a letter to the Union power minister regarding grid connectivity.
Officials briefed the chief minister about the steps taken to augment power supply during the rabi season.
The officials also explained to the chief minister that measures were taken to meet the demand-supply gap and power purchases.
The situation would ease in October when Krishnapatnam first stage would be completed which will ensure 800 MW power supply.
Similarly the second stage would be be completed by December and 520 MW power from Hinduja power plant would be ready by the year end.
The chief minister asked the officials to encourage power entrepreneurs who were willing to set up solar power plants as per the norms prescribed by the group of ministers.
He also asked the NREDCAP to take up roof top solar net metering on a pilot basis on government welfare hostel buildings.
