Temperatures across the state have begun soaring and Kurnool recorded its highest temperature on Saturday at 43.6 degrees Celsius with Nizamabad coming close at 43 degrees Celsius, according to meteorologial department officials.
The mercury in Hyderabad too touched its highest so far - a sizzling 41.9 degrees - on Saturday, while other places like Ramagundam, Tirupati, Ananthapur and Nellore witnessed temperatures well above 40 degrees.
Only Vishakhapatnam recorded a relatively cooler 33 degrees Celsius due to the coastal winds which bring down the temperature by evening.
“This is the usual case every summer, and temperatures last year were similar. In fact, Hyderabad recorded its highest temperature of 43 degrees last year towards the end of May,” said M Narasimha Rao, assistant meteorologist. He added that last summer, the mercury reached a blazing 48 degrees Celsius in places like Nizamabad, Anantapur and Ramagundam.
“We are expecting the mercury to go up higher in Hyderabad this month. Till monsoon arrives, temperatures are likely to remain high. We expect the temperatures to be around 47-48 degrees Celsius in some places in the state. It has been the trend for the last three to four years,” Rao said.
The forecast for the next 24 hours for Hyderabad is 42 degrees, while it is 44 degrees for Nizamabad.
