The government will appoint a third party quality control agency soon to monitor the quality of items being supplied through ration shops under the Amma Hastam scheme.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, civil supplies minister D Sridhar Babu  refuted some media reports that inferior quality products were supplied under Amma Hastam through the public distribution system.

If a ration dealer belonged to an opposition party he might be adulterating the products to tarnish the image of the government, the minister alleged and claimed that the quality of the products supplied under Amma Hastam was good.

He said at the same time that if there were any mistakes in implementing the scheme, the government would rectify them by the end of June. He accused opposition parties of intentionally conducting a vicious campaign against Amma Hastam.

The scheme being new, there would be some teething troubles. The government would overcome them and supply nine essential goods at subsidised rates to BPL families, Sridhar Babu said.
