The Machilipatnam police arrested five persons, including Cheekati Arun Kumar, a lab assistant, in connection with the sale of pirated CDs of Pavan Kalyan starrer ‘Attarintiki Daredi’, which created a sensation in the state.

Producing the accused before the media Wednesday, Krishna district superintendent of police J Prabhakara Rao said that Arun Kumar of Film Nagar in Hyderabad, gave the CD of the film to his friend Katta Ravi, an APSP constable in Hyderabad. After watching the movie, Ravi sent the CD by post to his friend Sudhir Kumar who lives in Pedana town of Krishna district.

Sudhir Kumar passed on the CD to his friend Poranki Suresh, a videographer who in turn gave it to his friend Kollipara Anil Kumar, a mobile shop owner. Anil Kumar later made copies of the CD and sold them in the local market. The pirated CDs were made with a 90-minute footage. They were widely circulated in Pedana and other parts of the state. The police conducted raids and recovered most of them.

Based on a complaint lodged by producer of the film BVSN Prasad in Hyderabad, the Chilakalapudi police in Krishna district began investigating the matter as the pirated CDs were first found in Pedana. The SP said two teams were formed to nab the accused. He said some footage was uploaded on YouTube but were later removed.
