High alert for Rajapaksa’s Tirupati visit

Tirupati is put on high alert in view of intelligence reports that some outfits may create trouble during the proposed visit of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the temple town on Friday.

Rajapaksa will visit Tirumala on Friday. He had visited the hill shrine in 2011.

Some of the activists of the MDMK and DK of Tamil Nadu met Tirupati Urban district SP SV Rajasekhara Babu on Thursday and submitted a memorandum seeking permission to stage protest demonstration at Tirupati airport wearing black badges.

However, they were denied permission and were warned to keep away from the airport or face arrest.

When contacted, Rajasekhara Babu said they have information about protests being planned by some groups from Tamil Nadu during Rajapaksa’s visit.
