Though a National Highway passes through half the constituency, which comprises Bhongir, Bibinagar, Valigonda and Bhudanpochampally mandals, development has not been seen in the segment.
People in the constituency face problems of insufficient drinking and irrigation water. Only villages of Bhudhanpochampally and Valigonda mandals get supply of drinking water from the Musi project. People in Bhongir town and other mandals are dependant on ground water. The main complaint of citizens of Bhongir town is the lack of an undeground drainage system.
People’s representatives, in the past, have promised to supple the water of Godavari river from Shameerpet village in Maedak district, but the government has taken no action on the proposal.
Assurances were also given in regard to the construction of Bhunadigani Kaluva but the project still lies pending. The construction of the scheme was taken up in 2006 at an estimated cost of `26.53 crore. As much as `5.23 crore were released for works to be taken up in the first and second phases but construction is being taken up at a snail’s pace. Lack of funds and compensation not being paid to displaced farmers are being seen as reasons for the delay.
Projects like the Pillaipally canal and Dharmareddy canal, which commenced in 2008 are still pending. The completion of these projects will ensure irrigation for 1,000 acres of land and the drinking water woes of the villages in the constituency will be addressed to some extent.
Former chief minister the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy laid the foundation stone for NIIMS in 2005 and announced `100 crore for its construction and `62 crore was released. The construction of the building was halted in 2009 due to paucity of funds. Though many agitations were taken up demanding its completion, no progress has been seen. The institute will greatly benefit residents of Nalgonda, Warangal and Rangareddy.
In spite of its close proximity to Hyderabad, the constituency has not seen any industrial development resulting in unemployment.
