Library Activist’s Birth Anniv Fete

VIJAYAWADA: The library department of KBN College will be celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of Iyyanki Venkata Ramanayya, who was the architect of public library movement in India, on July 27.

In a press release, programme convener Iyyanki V Murali Krishna said, “In the memory of Iyyanki Venkata Ramanayya, we are celebrating his birthday in association with Saraswathi Samrajyam, AP Library association at the college premises. Deputy speaker of AP Assembly Mandali Buddha Prasad will be the chief guest.”

He said that Venkata Ramanayya was an active leader of Library movement for six decades and he stood as an inspiration for the youth. He founded thousands of public libraries at several parts in India.
