Submerged villages under Polavaram project is the most important issue that will dominate the minds of voters in Mahabubabad Lok Sabha constituency, reserved for STs and dominated by tribals.

The constituency is represented by Union minister of State for social justice and empowerment P Balaram Naik.

Bhadrachalam Revenue Division and Polavaram projects are the burning issues that will influence the outcome of the elections, in the constituency that had prominently figured in the Telangana movement. The Central government’s ordinance on the submerged villages in regard to the division of assets during bifurcation is another issue.

A candidate’s proposal to solve the problem of the Polavaram project, which has seen stiff resistance from tribal communities, will dictate their electoral fortunes.

Lack of roads connecting the interior tribal hamlets to the districts headquarters, lack of proper drinking water facilities, lack of irrigation waters due to non-existence of irrigation projects in the constituency are other issues that will influence the voters’ mindset.  The region has no proper health infrastructure. Lack of hospitals and shortage of staff in the hospitals and PHCs is another problem.

The Assembly segments in the constituency are: Dornakal, Mahabubabad, Narasampet, Mulug, Pinapaka, Yellandu, Bhadrachalam. Except for Narsampet, all other assembly segments are reserved for STs.
