Underdevelopment, Lack of Jobs Top Problem List
People of Chevella Parliamentary Constituency are facing a plethora of problems, underdevelopment and unemployment being being at the forefront. One would think the constituency, by virtue of being in proximity to Hyderabad would progress, but that is not the case. In fact, the proximity to the state capital has become a bane to the constituency.
With most industries located in mandals near Hyderabd (Serlingampally and Rajenderangar), there was no industrial development in other parts of the constituency including Rangareddy district, which features in the list of under developed districts in the country. This has further given rise to unemployment.
Although more than 70 per cent of the constituency lies in catchment areas of water sources like Himayat Sagr, Osman Sagar and Singur, people of the constituency face drinking water problems. Their problems worsen in summer as no schemes have been implemented so far to address the issue.
Lying in catchment areas has proved to be a bane to the constituency. GO 111 denies the farmers any right to develop the land except for cultivation leaving them distressed. The lack of irrigation water and the GO prevents the farmers from taking up cultivation as well as developing their lands for other purposes. Many of the farmers have approached court demanding the scrapping of the GO.
Rangareddy district does not have a single irrigation project. Although the Pranahita-Chevella project was promised, it is yet to be materialised. Similar is the case with the water from the Palamur Lift Irrigation scheme.Â
Several Tribal hamlets in Pargi Assembly constituency have been denied proper roads, education and medical facilities for long. Though a degree college college was sanctioned for the constituency, it lacks infrastructure and is highly understaffed.
The long-standing demand for declaring the constituency and the district a special horticulture zone is yet to be addressed. There are no cold storage facilities leaving farmers worried about their produce.
Another important issue in the constituency is the demand for making Vikarabad the district headquarters. There is also a demand for shifting all divisional offices to Chevella.
