Free Treatment for the Poor at GITAM Hospital

VISAKHAPATNAM:  GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (GIMSR), unveiled its medical services here Wednesday, at the 700-bedded hospital built by GITAM University near Yendada Hills. The hospital, which will be inaugurated later, was set up with an objective of offering free medical services to white ration cardholders.

The hospital has 17 operation theatres and employs 100 medical experts in general medicine, general surgery, orthopaedics and several other fields with all the required diagnostics and radiology departments.

GITAM president MVVS Murthi said that the hospital aimed to bring world-class medical facilities and medical experts to Visakhapatnam to serve the poor. The proposed Medical College would be added to the hospital to take up teaching and medical research, he said.

University vice-chancellor G Subrahmanyam said that latest medical equipment with a specialised doctors’ team was the main attraction at the hospital. GIMSR research director CV Rao informed that the GIMSR would serve people of all categories with super-specialty medical facilities and hoped that the people of Andhra, particularly from the north Andhra region, would utilise the facilities.

Former MLA Rehaman, GITAM secretary BV Mohana Rao, treasurer BSSN Raju, hospital superintendent SV Varalaxmi and GIMSR residing director YLV Rao were present.
