SRIKAKULAM: District incharge minister and Minister for Civil Supplies Paritala Sunitha said that Rs 20 lakh was released additionally for the Muddada Lift Irrigation Scheme, which she inaugurated Wednesday.
On the occasion, the minister said that the administration had taken up repair works to 14 lift irrigation schemes at a cost of Rs 7 crore to provide irrigation water in the district. With the Muddada LI Scheme water would be provided to 700 acres, and Rs 20 lakh was released for an additional motor. After erection of the second motor, tail-end fields would also get water for irrigation, she said.
Labour and Employment minister K Atchennaidu exhorted the farmers to maintain the lift irrigation scheme well. The farmers can form a unit to take up the maintenance of the schemes. As there was no proper maintenance, all the 14 LI schemes became defunct and the TDP government is undertaking repairs to all the schemes by spending Rs 7 crore, the minister said.
Plenty of water from the rivers Nagavali and Vamsadhara is flowing into the Bay of Bengal. The government has plans to link both the rivers to provide water to Vizianagaram district. The government had a discussion with the Odisha government and cleared all the hurdles for the second stage works of the Vamsadhara river, Atchennaidu said.
Collector P Lakshmi Nrusimham, joint collector Vivek Yadav, MLAs K Ravi Kumar and GSS Sivaji, MLC K Pratibha Bharati and ZP chairperson Ch Dhanalakshmi were present.
