HYDERABAD: Posing yet another hurdle to the Polavaram Irrigation Project taken up by Andhra Pradesh, Union Water Resources minister Uma Bharti on Thursday asked the governments of AP and Odisha to find an amicable solution to the problems of tribal people, who will be displaced by the project.

A day after MPs from Odisha staged a protest in the Parliament against the decision of the Union government to award national status to Polavaram Project, the minister on Thursday addressed mediapersons in New Delhi and opined that the issue needs to be settled amicably. The minister stated that the submergence of tribal habitations is a sensitive issue. Hence, she suggested the Chief Ministers of both states to hold talks and find an amicable solution.

The Union Minister further said the Chandrababu Naidu’s government is doing a good job with regard to construction of the project.
