Meekosam for Speedy Grievance Redressal

NELLORE: For disposing of the representations being received during the Grievances Day every Monday in a speedy manner, the district administration proposes to introduce “Meekosam” programme very soon.

In fact, the innovative concept has been conceived when N Srikanth was district collector, and now it has been referred to the government. Unofficially, it is already being implemented in the district and partially and is likely to get official sanction this month or the next.

According to sources, as many as 3,509 representations are pending, against the total around 10,000 applications received in the last four months. As many as 2,109 of them are related to revenue and 1,342 are general petitions.

The programme has been designed by call centre incharge at collector’s office K Nageswara Rao, who is known for his software solutions to various problems, including disaster management. Interestingly, chief minister N Chadnrababu Naidu, who has come to know about the innovative programme, decided to implement it in all the districts in Andhra Pradesh. According to sources, training has been given to collector office staff, who will monitor it.

Initially, the government has planned to implement the Meekosam from February 2, but it was postponed due to some technical reasons.

The Concept

In the new method, a petition would be scanned and allotted a specific number and linked to the petitioner’s Aadhaar card. The petitioner will get an SMS stating that his representation was registered and he could monitor and know its status online, without going to the collector’s office. “This new method will not only help ease the burden on the administration relating to the disposal of petitions, but also fixes the responsibility on the official concerned as he will have to settle the problem in a time-bound manner,” Nageswara Rao told Express. According to official sources, not less than 3,500 petitions related to land disputes, pensions, rations cards, house sites, land allocation, issue of Adangals, Pattadar passbooks etc are received from the public every Monday at the collector’s office in Nellore and another 5,000 petitions are received at Gudur, Kavali and Naidupet RDO offices.  When contacted, joint collector Imtiaz Ahmad said the stage government is gearing up to implement the Meekosam programme from next month as the chief minister has responded to the new method positively.

“Yes, Meekosam is an innovative concept and the administration feels proud of coming up with such a method, which is going to be implemented across the state. We are planning to implement it in all the 46 mandals in the district,” he said.
