VISAKHAPATNAM: Noted writer, rights activist and founder member of Revolutionary Writers Association Chalasani Prasad died of heart attack at his residence in HB Colony here Saturday. The 83-year-old suffered heart attack and breathed his last before being shifted to hospital. Prasad is survived by two daughters and his wife pre-deceased him.
The family members said that Prasad suffered a heart attack at around 11.30 am and died before an ambulance reached home. “As per his wishes, there will be no cremation. Instead,his body will be handed over to Andhra Medical College here Sunday,” the family members said. They said that the body would be kept at Prasad’s residence in HB Colony for the visitors to pay last respects. A condolence meet will be held at noon at his residence Sunday followed by a procesion to AMC at 2pm.
Chalasani Prasad was born in a Communist family at Bhatlapenumarru in Krishna district in 1932 and remained a life-long Marxist. He studied MA (political science) from Andhra University and worked in the fisheries department and also the railways for brief spells before joining as a lecturer at Mrs AVN College here in 1968. He retired as a lecturer of political sciences in 1992. As a teacher, he had endeared himself to the students and was also keen to improve their personality.
Prasad was a voracious reader and a prolific writer on various subjects.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu who is in Rajahmundry, mourned the death of Prasad terming him as people’s man.
