SW Hostels to Turn Into Residential Schools Soon

VIJAYAWADA: Minister for social welfare Ravela Kishore Babu has said efforts are on to offer better education to inmates of social welfare hostels in the state than that imparted in corporate schools. These social welfare hostels will be made residential schools in a phased manner, he added.

Addressing a workshop for social welfare department officials from joint director level to hostel caretaker here Sunday, he said important changes will be brought about in the running of social welfare hostels, which hereafter will be run as residential schools offering standard education.

He said several lakhs of students stay and pursue education in social welfare hostels and it is imperative to provide better facilities for them. He said measures are being taken for better food, health and other basic infrastructure facilities in those hostels. He said  hereafter with a budget of Rs 10 lakh for every residential school of social welfare department, computer education will be provided and Mana TV will be used an an education tool. He said shortly a model residential school will be built in Kuppam of Chittoor district at a cost of Rs 25 crore.
