VISAKHAPATNAM: The harmful side of social messenger apps has come to light with the incident of leakage of Andhra University examination paper here Tuesday. The question paper on Web Technologies of third year B.Sc was leaked and shared by many students through WhatsApp groups. AU officials cancelled the examination which was scheduled at 2 pm Wednesday.
Sources said that before the exam commenced, students paid large sums to the people who managed to get the paper in advance and passed it on through mobiles via WhatsApp. Varsity officials who received communication through the media confirmed the leakage of the question paper from the BR Memorial College and cancelled the exam immediately. However, registrar V Uma Maheswara Rao ordered the college management to suspend the principal and chief superintendent of the college.
“We also asked the officials to arrange two observers at the centre and conduct an investigation. A separate committee consisting of professors P Hrishikesava Rao and Y Satyanarayana was constituted,” he said. However, a new date for the examination is yet to be decided and will be announced soon. The college management would lodge a complaint with the police.
