MEIL Chief Vows to Turn Dokiparru into Model Village

VIJAYAWADA: Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL)chairman PP Reddy and managing director PV Krishna Reddy have adopted their native village Dokiparru in Gudlavalleru mandal of Krishna district on Wednesday.

It was their way of saying thank you to the village where they had their roots and where their fathers and forefathers have lived and prospered. “We have achieved much in our life. Now, we want to see the village we hail from is developed on all fronts and emerge as model village in the state,”

PP Reddy said while announcing his decision to adopt the village to the villagers at a programme organised in the newly-constructed ‘Kalyana Mandapam’ in the village

Both temple and ‘Kalyana Mandapam’ are being constructed by MEIL along with a guest house on the village outskirts. “We wanted to give back to our village and thought it better to adopt the village and be part of its transformation into a progressive and model village,” he said while inviting suggestions and plans from the villagers on what needs to be done for turning the village into a model one.

Underscoring eradication of open defecation, which is still continuing in the village, for achieving Swachh Bharat, MEIL chairman came forward to lend a helping hand. “The government is doing its job. We too want to contribute to ensure 100 per cent toilets in the village. Further, MEIL had decided to contribute for Swachh Bharat campaign by taking up cleaning and hygiene activities in 50 villages by month-end. Each village will be given Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 for the purpose. It will be a continuous process,” he said. His nephew and MEIL managing director MV Krishna Reddy said they had  adopted the village with the intention of contributing their mite for its development as model village. “We shall help in construction of a hospital, laying of cement roads and other infrastructural facilities. Our company is involved in solar power projects in the country and abroad along with many other infrastructure and engineering projects. We shall use our expertise to have 24 hours of power in the village using solar power,” he said while seeking the cooperation of villagers in the process.

Dokiparru is not the first village adopted by PP Reddy. He had already adopted his mother’s native village Jamulapalle in Pithapuram mandal in East Godavari district where the works for improvement of infrastructural facilities had already commenced. Even a mineral water plant was set up to provide safe drinking water to villagers.
