VISAKHAPATNAM:The administration office of State Bank of India (SBI) in Visakhapatnam organised a Walkathon on the Beach Road between Kali Mata temple and YMCA Sunday. The event was flagged off by SBI deputy general manager KN Nayak to mark the golden jubilee celebrations of SBI Hyderabad circle.

Carved out of erstwhile Madras Circle on February 1, 1965, the declaration to open the circle was made by the then chief minister Kasu Brahmananda Reddy. Borra Venkatappaiah was the then chairman of the bank and RK Talwar the first secretary and treasurer (equivalent to the present chief general manager of the Circle) of the newly formed Hyderabad circle. “The circle was formed with about 69 branches with a total business of around Rs 130 crore with branches located predominantly in urban/Metro centres.

Now the circle has more than 1,400 branches and a business of Rs 1.3 lakh crore,” said Nayak. All the regional managers along with staff and their families from the three north coastal districts of Anshra Pradesh participated in the event.
