RTC Bus Mows Down 6-yr-old, Kin Cry Foul

VISAKHAPATNAM: A six-year-old girl was mowed down by an RTC bus near Srinivas Nagar in the Simhachalam area on Wednesday. The death of the girl triggered a protest with the relatives of the deceased and nearby residents accusing the driver of being negligent while at the wheels. They demanded that severe action be taken against the driver.

The deceased has been identified as V Basanthi (6), a native of Koraput district of Odisha. Her parents are daily wagers. She came to Visakhapatnam to visit their relatives who are living in Srinivas Nagar.

According to Gopalpatnam traffic police, Basanthi, along with her mother, was crossing the road when the speeding RTC bus, which was on its way from Simhachalam to  Gajuwaka, ran over her. Basanthi received servere injuries on her head and died on the spot. Soon after the incident, the bus driver fled.

The family members and the nearby residents gathered at the accident spot and staged a protest, seeking action against the driver.

Upon receiving the informartion, the Gopalapatnam traffic police rushed to the spot and pacified the angry protesters.

They said that the bus driver had been taken into custody. A case have been registered.
