VISAKHAPATNAM: With Sankranti festival round the corner, the Beach Road witnessed a splash of colours against the blue backdrop of the sky, as little kite flyers enjoyed competing with each other flying their colourful kites. Aiding the fun, a number of kite stalls have sprouted on the Beach Road selling varieties of kites.
Kite stalls were set up between NTR statue and submarine museum on Monday. Kites with pictures of cartoon characters are selling like hot cakes.
The price ranges from Rs 20 to Rs 300. Meanwhile, ‘Bahubali’ kites are also having a brisk sale. These kites are being bought not only by kids but also by the youngsters.
“Mostly children are buying Doraemon, Chota Bheem kites and superhero kites while the youngsters buy Bahubali kites.” said Naidu, the kite seller and resident of the Beach Road.As most of the educational institutions were closed for Sankranti vacation, children along with their elders are on the Beach Road to spend evening flying kites. While children tugged at the strings, screamed in delight as the kites soared.
“It is always better to fly kites near beach than on the terrace. Moreover, it is a good way to spend vacations,” said Nandini, a homemaker and resident of Lawson’s Bay Colony.
