HYDERABAD: Instead of taking concrete steps to improve the infrastructure and provide basic amenities in all government-run hospitals in the state, the Andhra Pradesh government appears to be concerned more about wooing international players to set up corporate hospitals in the state, particularly in the Amaravati capital region.

Health minister Kamineni Srinivas, who  visited King's College Hospital in London on Wednesday, said the AP government had persuaded the British Indian Clinical and Academic Partnership (BICAP) to set up world-class clinical service in Amaravati. He claimed that King's College Hospital had given an assurance to him in this regard.

The minister expressed his gratitude to BICAP which consists of a large group of renowned senior doctors of AP origin practicing in the UK, for its willingness to establish best clinical practices in the state. King's College Hospital's commercial director Richard assured the minister that King's was excited and fully committed to the Amaravati project. "Our hospital is looking forward to the foundation stone ceremony for the King's Amaravati Hospital scheduled to take place on June 6," he said.
