No Maoist Presence in Amaravati: DGP

GUNTUR:  Director General of Police (DGP) J V Ramudu has said that there was no presence of Maoists in the capital area of Amaravati.

Speaking after laying a stone for the construction of a Police Conference Hall in the APSP 6 Battalion premises at Mangalagiri on Wednesday, he rubbished reports on the movements of Maoists in the capital region.

Stating that Rs 4.50 crore would be spent on the construction of the conference hall, he said the Mangalagiri Battalion would be upgraded to headquarters of the state police.

He said that a police training centre would come up on an area of 2,500 acres in Amaravati and added that necessary proposals have been sent to the Union Government and the state government for sanctioning of the required funds.

Reiterating that most of the police infrastructure in the undivided state went to Telangana despite AP getting 60 per cent police force under the AP Reorganisation Act, he asserted that the police department had forwarded proposals for carving out Amaravati Police Commissionerate and asked the Centre to allocate the required IPS officers.

Responding to reports that the state government was mulling bringing back the former CBI joint director Lakshminarayana, he said they had no such ideas as Lakshminarayana belonged to the Maharashtra cadre.

South Coastal Range IG N Sanjay, Guntur Distict Collector Kantilal Dande, APSP battalions IG R K Meena and others participated in the programme.
