Stone Laid for Renovation of Gurajada Kalakshetram

VISAKHAPATNAM: The foundation stone for the modernisation works of the Gurajada Kalakshetram was laid at Siripuram on Sunday.

Laying the stone, HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said the VUDA was taking up the works at a cost of Rs 5.7 crore.

The open auditorium would be covered and the stage and green rooms would be reconstructed. The Kalakshetra and Children’s Theatre would also be developed.

“Plans have been finalised for construction of a new auditorium in MVP Colony on par with Ravindra Bharathi of Hyderabad. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will lay the stone for the auditorium,” he said.

Speaking on housing schemes, Ganta said the VUDA would develop layouts on a large scale at Anakapalle, Bheemili and Anandapuram for which 250 acres had been identified. it would also develop satellite townships in those areas, apart from another layout at Dakamarri near Bheemili.

The housing projects would be done on the LIG and MIG models keeping in view of the demand from the lower and middle income groups, the minister said.

Later in the day, the minister performed Bhoomi Puja, along with district Judge V Jaya Surya, for Nyaya Vihar, a housing project designed for the advocates on 8 acres.

Revenue plan

  • Gurajada Kalakshetram was set up with 3,000 seating capacity in 1987
  • Present revenue generation: Rs 6.87 lakh per annum
  • Expected revenue after development: Rs 25 lakh per annum
  • Project cost- Rs 5.7 cr

Multi-level Parking Lots to Come up

Multi-level parking facilities would be built at busy junctions in the city, HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said on Monday. The Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) will construct the parking lots. The VUDA is conducting a feasibility study at Ramnagar, Jagadamba, Diamond Park and some other areas for the purpose. An underground bazaar on par with the New Dehli Park Bazar will also be developed in the city for which the VUDA Central Park areas are being considered, he said.
