ELURU: Kapu activists staged protests at various places in West Godavari district on Monday demanding that the Telugu Desam government allow Mudragada Padmanabham to undertake ‘Chalo Amaravati Padayatra’.

At Koderu village in Achanta mandal, Kapu youth staged ‘Jala Deeksha’ in Vasishta Godavari river half naked demanding inclusion of the caste in the list of Backward Classes. They flayed the State government for preventing Mudragada from undertaking ‘Chalo Amaravati Padayatra’ by keeping him under house arrest. The Kapu activists also condemned the arrest of district Kapu Association president Chinamilli Venkatrayudu, who went on an indefinite hunger strike at his house at Rayalam in Bhimavaram. They offered prayers to the Godavari River Goddess seeking divine intervention for inclusion of Kapus in the BC list. Kapunadu leaders Ganesula Nageswara Rao, Nimmakayala Gangaraju and others participated in the Deeksha.

At Peravali, the Kapu activists extended their support to Mudragada by beating steel plates with spoons. Speaking on the occasion, mandal Kapu Association president Kacharla Sitaram Prasad exhorted the community members to wage a united fight for BC status.
